-399.Breaking the 400 Day Gap

Holt's articles continue to entertain area residents of Brunswick.
All in a day's work, right Sarah? I'm reminded as of Christmas Day by
Grandpa Johnson that a trip like this is not all fun & games. The
anticipation and afterglow are the fun parts, Nicholas. Apparently one
year at Isle Royal, Karen & Grandpa were hiking for days in a driving
rain. You're soaked to the bone and get to take those wet clothes off
& climb into a dry warm sleeping bag for a few hours sleep before
waking in the morning to wet clothes & more rain hiking. At one point,
Karen had fallen with her pack on and reached a hand up and said "help
me, Grandpa". That was a precious moment he'll remember forever, but
was not fun in the sun at the time.
Christopher Whalen's AT Thru-Hike Planning Guide's introductory pages
have told me how important it is for the actual hike to be the
exciting part as well. With my past high-adventure hiking experience,
I'm certain that the trip (with adequate planning) will not only be
100% do-able, but also packed with exhilerating times like Sarah's.

I remember when dad posted the number of day to paris...it was like 433??...now the trip is very close. In less tham 100 days we will embark on a trip that was loosly planned 30 years ago. It's very exciting! Enjoy your planning! Mom
